I am a California licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy (with a specialization in Addiction studies) and maintain a private practice in Lafayette, Ca.
With over 20 years experience as a therapist I have worked with many different types of clients. My practice is usually about 50% adolescents and the remainder individuals and couples. My experience has included depression, bipolar, anxiety, substance abuse/dependency, trauma (5 years as a rape counselor) and the many ongoing life challenges our world continues to provide for us. My work with teens ranges from separation/individuation issues, substance abuse, sexual identity and the stresses of being a teenager in today's environment. Today's life is more complicated than it ever has been and helping adolescents and their families navigate through difficult times is very rewarding. This work usually involves parents as improving family life is often a goal.
I am a cognitive behavioral therapist. This means my therapeutic approach is to help clients see how their thinking and behavior can often interfere with their quality of life. I believe in moving forward with clients but will bring in the past when it appears important to their therapeutic goals. All relationships are a "work in progress" and learning certain skills can often have a significant impact on their quality. I have a specialization in Addiction Studies that has continued to be useful with many clients. I feel very fortunate to be in a profession that allows me to participate and witness the work people put into improving their lives. It is an honor..
